Larry Sauer Design Studio provides homeowners and homebuilders with residential architecture services in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. In addition to new homes, our expertise includes additions and renovations such as kitchen design and remodeling, in-law apartment additions, garage additions, second floor additions, or remodeling existing space. We specialize in green strategies and suggest energy-saving and healthy options for every project.
“As a residential design specialist, I understand how important a home is to its owners, what enormous emotional energy and financial resources are invested in it and how unnerving it can be to be at the mercy of others in the shaping of that home. I’ve developed our remodeling design services to eliminate as much of that stress as possible,” says Larry Sauer, AIA.
“Your home reflects who you are. It should meet your physical needs, and it should also nourish the spirit and feel like your own personal retreat. I rely on keen listening skills and creative problem-solving to create a home that reflects an owner’s personality and lifestyle. I am also sensitive to time and financial constraints as I guide and translate the owner’s needs, desires and vision into a high quality, highly functional design,” Larry continued.
Over the past 25 years, Larry Sauer has served as design director for several prominent, national architectural design firms where he has won 17 awards for design excellence. He has designed such Washington area landmarks as the World Bank "J" Building, Cato Institute and the National Archives II. He led the planning and renovation efforts for D.C.'s Historic Eastern Market, Beauvoir School and Hotel Thayer at West Point. In addition, he has lectured and taught aspiring architects at Johns Hopkins, Howard University, University of Virginia, Catholic University and Virginia Polytechnic Institute.
